Although it\'s not revolutionary by today\'s standards, Heretic II was one of the first games to offer a third-person view in a first-person shooter. It\'s still a fun way to explore and blast away the bad guys. As with most shooters, there are dozens of keyboard-based character controls, but Heretic II\'s are spaced well and are surprisingly simple to master. A grand mix of weapons and power-ups make it worth exploring every nook and cranny of the game\'s medieval-meets-alien world. The sound effects are spooky at first, but on repetition they can get annoying. Prevalent map tools would also be helpful in tracking location and status through the labyrinth-laden levels. Although the gameplay offers little innovation, there\'s still plenty of action to enjoy.
