D.I.Y. swag is the newest album by Maxime Robin, out February 20th 2012 on Neferiu Records, a label specializing in rap and instrumental music. Neferiu’s catalogue is the perfect environment for the third album of the Canadian artist. (His last album titled Mondrian Owns Geometry was released on the French netlabel Fresh Poulp Records in 2010.)
Alongside DIY swag’s deliciously dusty sample-laden instrumental beattape constructions are a couple choice vocal collaborations from Marmalade (Pigeon Hole/Sweatshop Union) and Maxime’s enigmatic label mate, Professor Mandrake (2 Blue Apes/The Dirty Sample). The two skilled emcees add the perfect flavor to a truly "lo-fi" album that stands its ground between hip hop culture and unique electronic experimentation.
A ultra lo-fi floppy disk ultra limited hand painted physical edition is also available on Maxime’s BandCamp page @ maximerobin.bandcamp.com
released 20 February 2012
But Who is Maxime Robin..?
Maxime Robin slices up sounds from 1-dollar-bin LPs, old VHS movies, furniture squeaks—virtually any sound source. He glues them together to form electronic music heavily influenced by hip-hop culture.
Something close to the groove of J-Dilla and the experimentations
of Prefuse 73. Twice nominated at the ADISQ awards for his solo work, he is also half of the dubstep duo Pax Kingz and half of the irreverent french rap duo MC Phylis et Maxime Robin.
Maxime has served as hiphop music director, Program Director, Chairman of the Board, facilitator, show host and volunteer at CHYZ, Laval University. And utilizing his extensive experience, writes at 30bpm.com, Ghetto Érudit’s and DJ Lexis‘s Music is My Sanctuary. music discovery website.<div class="clear-left" />
