Jimi Hendrix- Vocals and Guitar
Mitch Mitchell- Drums
Billy Cox- Bass
Performances from Jimi\'s two set gig at Haleakala Crater, Maui originally for the soundtrack to the Rainbow Bridge movie.
The recordings on this 2CD set have been remastered and as Mitch says in the liner notes, it was an enjoyable one to play but there were some technical hitches to contend with as there were magnetic fields in the vicinity causing problems with the film and sound equipment.
He says only eight of sixteen channels were working at any one time which was a problem when it came to a suitable final mix.
Sure, you can hear those difficulties, as well as strong winds being caught in the mics, but there is no denying the power and subtlety of the trio, not to mention the quality of improvisation which never becomes self indulgent.
Jimi certainly indicates here his development from his early days as a star, and sadly it was only a pointer as to what might have been, as he was to die two months later.
The second set includes Jimi on his Gibson Flying V.
