Baz Luhrmann is a well-known entertainment master who showed us Romeo and Juliet in all the different colors and shades than we got used to. Then he went on with his Moulin Rouge and again it was a spectacular show. When he announced that he was preparing for another “fine mess” and voiced the masterpiece everyone was waiting with impatience. Except the ones who considered themselves experts in classical literature. So, here it is! Colorful, rich, noisy and beautiful picture starring one of the most remarkable modern actors such as Leonardo Dicaprio. It is not an easy task to adopt a piece of classical literature into a three hours movie and manage to make clear all the aspects of this brilliant book. Surely, Luhrmann was ready to the critics curses, but simple people for whom he made this film were leaving the theatres absolutely happy and satisfied. They felt that they have touched the classics and at the same time they have received all that promised beauty, luxury and intrigue. This rather means that Baz is a well-skilled director who succeeded in his striving. It all happened on Long Island, New York in the times when poor people were becoming very rich moving different paths, starting from economical and fair and ending with illegal ones. This was a beautiful time for partying, loving and drinking since straight after the first world war people felt that everlasting enthusiasm and willing to live. However, some people still had their head on and weren’t deceived by the false feeling of freedom and binge. Jay Gatsby was one of such people who didn’t lose his head in search of money but on the contrary was making money on purpose. And his only purpose appeared to be very outdated for that times of money and partying. It was love.
